Black Friday UK travel deals 2026

How to tell a genuine staycation bargain from a dressed-up list price.

Black Friday falls on Friday 27 November 2026, with Cyber Monday on 30 November. Hotel groups, holiday-cottage agencies, rail operators and attractions all now run sales around that weekend — and some of the offers are genuinely good. Others are ordinary prices with a countdown clock attached. This guide explains where real savings tend to turn up, how to check them, and how to book safely. We do not list specific discounts here, because they change hourly and we will not quote numbers we cannot verify.

Where genuine UK travel savings tend to appear

  • Hotel and short-break sales. Large hotel groups and booking sites often discount stays in the quieter months of January to March. That is where the value usually is: a winter city break in York, Edinburgh or Cardiff, or a coastal weekend out of season.
  • Holiday cottages. Cottage agencies commonly run percentage-off or extra-night offers over the Black Friday weekend, typically for stays the following spring. Popular areas such as Cumbria, Northumberland and Pembrokeshire book up early for school holidays, so a sale can be a good moment to secure dates as well as a price.
  • Rail. Train operators and National Rail have run time-limited sales on Advance tickets in previous years. Check the operator’s own website or National Rail rather than relying on a screenshot shared online. A railcard, if you qualify, saves money all year and is often a better long-term deal than any one-off sale.
  • Attractions and gift experiences. Annual passes, memberships and gift vouchers for attractions are sometimes discounted — useful if you were going to buy a Christmas present anyway.

How to check a deal is real

  1. Price-check before the sale. In the week before 27 November, note the price of the exact room, cottage or route you want. Then you can compare like for like when the sale starts.
  2. Compare the same dates and room type. “Up to 50% off” frequently applies to a handful of unpopular dates. Look at the price for your dates.
  3. Check the hotel’s own website. The direct price is sometimes the same or lower than a third-party sale price, and booking direct can bring better cancellation terms.
  4. Read the cancellation and change rules. Sale rates are often non-refundable. A slightly higher flexible rate can be the better deal if your plans might change.
  5. Add up the extras. Breakfast, parking, resort or cleaning fees, booking fees and pet charges can wipe out a headline saving.

What to watch out for

  • Fake urgency. Countdown timers and “only 2 rooms left” messages are designed to rush you. If the deal is genuinely good, a five-minute check will not lose it.
  • Copycat websites and social-media ads. Scam booking sites and fake holiday-let listings increase around big sales. Type the company’s address yourself rather than clicking an ad, and be wary of anyone asking for payment by bank transfer.
  • Protection. Paying by credit card can give extra protection under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act for purchases over £100. Package holidays that combine travel and accommodation should be ATOL- or ABTA-protected where applicable — check the company’s membership number on the scheme’s own website.
  • Vouchers with short expiry dates. Make sure you can realistically use a voucher before it expires, and check blackout dates such as Christmas, New Year and school holidays.

When to book what

Black Friday is best for flexible breaks in the quiet season and for locking in spring and summer cottages. It is rarely the best time to find a bargain for Christmas or New Year itself — those dates are in high demand. If you want to be somewhere specific for the festive period, see our guides to the best UK Christmas breaks and where to spend Hogmanay and New Year’s Eve, and book as early as you can.
