Who we are
UKtourism is published by Lifestyle Media Group Ltd, a UK-based media company with more than fifteen years of experience connecting travellers with official tourist boards, visitor information centres and destinations across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
We started because we believed the UK was being undersold to its own residents. International travel gets the marketing budgets, the glossy brochures and the airport billboards. But the UK — a country with coastline, mountains, ancient cities, national parks and islands to rival almost anywhere in the world — often goes overlooked by the very people who live within a few hours of it.
Our aim is simple: to be the most useful, honest and up-to-date guide to UK holidays on the internet. Not a booking agency with commission targets, not a faceless aggregator pulling in third-party content. A real editorial resource, written with genuine enthusiasm for the places we cover.
What we cover — and how
UKtourism covers 77 destinations across the four nations, from major cities like Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast to smaller, less-obvious places that reward visitors who venture off the main routes — the Shetland Islands, Skomer Island, the Isle of Tiree, Blaenau Gwent, Woolacombe and Mortehoe.
For each destination we publish:
- Visitor guides — written editorial covering the main attractions, what makes the place worth visiting, and practical information for planning a trip
- Events listings — real, verified upcoming events sourced directly from official tourism and venue websites. We currently list over 900 events across the UK, updated regularly
- Accommodation links — direct search links to hotels, B&Bs, holiday cottages and self-catering via Booking.com, so you can move from inspiration to booking without losing your place
- Local links — connections to official destination websites, tourist boards and visitor information centres so you can go deeper when you find somewhere you love
We work directly with official UK Tourist Boards and Tourist Information Centres to ensure the information we publish is accurate and current. Where a destination has official visitor guide materials available, we link to them directly.
Our editorial approach
We are not neutral on the subject of UK holidays. We think Britain is genuinely extraordinary and we want more people to discover it — particularly residents who might not have considered a UK break before, or who keep returning to the same familiar spots without realising what else is on offer.
That said, we try to be useful rather than promotional. Our destination guides aim to give you an honest sense of a place — what it is actually like, what the highlights are, how to get there, when to go and where to stay. We include smaller and less well-known destinations alongside the famous ones, because some of the best UK holidays are the ones you didn’t plan for.
Our events calendar is one of the most comprehensive free resources of its kind. We list over 900 verified events ranging from major festivals and agricultural shows to local food fairs, Christmas markets, sporting events and heritage open days. Events are checked against official sources and we remove past events automatically so you only ever see what’s actually coming up.
